Once upon a time...

There was a princess of a fantastical kingdom. She had been raised as the darling of the court; she knew everything about her kingdom was perfect. She knew her parents were perfectly just and kind, she knew the advisors were perfectly wise and thoughtful, she knew even the peasants were perfectly humble and hardworking. And of course the most perfect part of the kingdom was her.

My Super First Day - Whisper The First Day

It began with a dream.

I had been reading Edwin A. Abbott's "Flatland" before bed. Rereading it, I first encountered it years ago. The inhabitants of Flatland are unable to see outside their two-dimensional world; the Sphere is able to appear and disappear at will by moving in and out of the Flatland plane, stupefying its denizens with his paranormal ability.

My mind went over and over it. I imagined moving away from the world, moving out and away from the people around me. Back and forth, sliding in and out of reality, helplessly tossed by some unseen current.

The Folly of Wendelin the Elf "You don't think there's anything ironic in selling us logs, when you disallow the cutting of trees?"

"It's not that we disallow the cutting of trees. It's that we don't want irresponsible humans doing it."

"Oh, really? It's so tough to figure out how to cut a tree?"

"How many decades have you studied the forest?"

"What?"

"How many? Our current logging-master was apprenticed for a century and has spent seven decades overseeing the forest since then. We don't want anyone to become a Wendelin."

Coming to a B-Movie Theater [Fade in on police cars blocking the road.]

Voiceover: One of the most valuable experiences in life...is becoming a mother.

[Fade cut to policemen directing traffic, ambulances driving by with flashing lights.]

Voiceover: It changes you completely. The bond between mother and child can never be broken.

did this interesting thing...I don't really do these meme/chain letter things, but for some reason this one appeals to me.

I went ahead and edited the rules a bit so they'd be clearer...
