Acquire

    "But they don't want to buy anything," he said, shuffling through his wallet. "I mean, they sit in their little huts and we show them all the stuff we've brought, and they don't want any of it." He pulled out a card and handed it over. "The eight-seater, right? Thanks, honey." He sighed theatrically. "It's frustrating, having no common ground like that."
    "I'm sorry, sir," the cashier said, "Your card has been declined."
    "What? Cripes!" he muttered, sorting through his cards and giving her another. "That one should work. ...Like I was saying, these people are so completely primitive and uncivilized that they don't ever want to buy anything. How do you even talk to savages like that?

I was quite unsure of the category for this one. I hope people who look for "Satire" and find this aren't disappointed.

Recently I read a recommendation for authors to write something first thing in the morning every day. I figured I'd give it a shot...while I was brushing my teeth and such today this popped into my head, so I wrote it down.

Actually, this comes from an anthropology course I took in college. I wrote an entire paper entitled "Lacking the Acquisitive Drive".

...yeah, but...you're not American either. :P

(But seriously, the point of reference for this story was actually Europeans in Africa.)
